Science is a wonderful thing.

No one can argue with some of the great advances in life we have attained, thanks to the application of scientific knowledge.

I am sure you are aware that the field of genetics and its applications is bound to continue changing people’s lives in ways no one can predict. But let us consider a few behaviors so far found to be genes related. Here are a few behaviors that we are informed the genes predisposes someone to:

  • Alcohol addiction.
  • Anger.
  • Thrill seeking or T-Type ness.
  • Kleptomania.

You do not need to be a gene scientist to realize that soon, we will all “know” that the following behaviors are genetically influenced:

  • Tendency towards homosexuality
  • Lying
  • Promiscuity and adultery
  • Theft and greed
  • Hate and Murder

In other words, one can certainly find a gene that influences any given behavior a person involves themselves in.

Soon, it should be possible for genetize any sin.

Finding such a offending gene and connecting it to a behavior of interest is not as difficult as you might imagine. Ask anyone doing research in genetics.

Science does not lie

Science has given us so much. Look around you. See all the wonders?  Medicine. Technology. Engineering. Where would be we be without the help of science? Since science has been our eyes, helping us navigate the complex world of both the seen and the unseen, we have been trained to believe that as long as science says something is ( i.e. scientifically proven) then it is.

Science cannot lie, we are programmed to think.

Now the hard part. If science has been so faithful to us and it cannot lie, how do you reconcile the above claims with the claims of the Bible?

What does the Lord say about how we should behave in this life?

Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.” ( Genesis 4:6,7 NIV)

In other words, you may have a predisposition to sin, but you do not have to.

And, here is a list of a few other natural things you will be predisposed to:

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. (Galatians 5 19-21 NIV)

Should you then obey your impulses?

You no doubt have heard the teaching that is summed up by the statement:

Once saved always saved“.

That should be obvious. But is that really so? And if not, how then could we ever talk of “eternal life”?

Are you having doubts on this matter? Allow me shed some light on it. You will be surprised how simple it really is. But even if you are secure in your belief, read on, you might get a second angle to it.

Simple, yet confusing to many

The Lord has no interest in confusing us, so you can be sure that the teaching about salvation must be straight forward and simple. It only becomes complicated to understand when it is taught by those who are out to deceive others, and they are many out there.

This is indeed a simple teaching, but maybe you find it to be complex.  Take heart, there is enough guidance in the scripture so that you need not be in doubt or let yourself be confused by the many voices out to subvert this teaching.

I will not try to go over any long theological expositions on the different schools of thought on the matter. It is not necessary. I will simply bring together and reproduce what is plainly obvious in the bible for your consideration. You should then be able to make an informed position on this very important matter. In the next post, i will go further and answer the question : “is there any sin that can disqualify someone from eternal salvation?”

No one likes to be beaten down. They say the traditional gospel has tended to beat people down.( In reality it is the traditional “misguided” gospel, for Christ himself never beat anyone down ). So, you can understand the appeal of the “God is good all the time, be happy, do not judge people, no one is perfect, be whatever you want to be, once saved always saved no matter what you do” type of Gospel that is light on the traditional “hell and brimstone” stuff. And my, the churches adapting that line of preaching have witnessed  exponential growth in attendance! So, what could be wrong with this newer friendlier gospel message? Nothing. Nothing, at face value. But if you look again, it is nothing less than death of the saints.

Let me illustrate. I was carpooling to work with this fine Christian lady. Perhaps in her late 40s. We got to talking about beliefs and she excitedly told me how she is “deep” with the Lord, that she grew up in a Christian family and that many people in her family have in one way or another been serving in the church. I told her that the song we had just been listening to, Israel’s “ i am a friend of God“, does not make sense to most people out there. That most people think of God as a mean old Guy sitting up in heaven waiting for you to make just one mistake and wham, He hits you. I am sure that is the image most people ( those 30+ ) grew up with.

Jehovah !=Alla..!

How many times have you been disappointed with the Lord, because of a deal you had with Him (or you thought you had with Him) that He did not come through on for you? If you have not been there, wait for your turn, it shall come. Or perhaps you have not been there because you happen to have the Faith of Abraham ( But even Abraham tried to help the Lord out a little bit when he lingered.). Have you been there? Then this is your message.

About a month ago i was onto the Lord:

“Lord, you said you are a Father to Orphans and the fatherless. I requested you to look after Gai and his brothers. But see what direction their lives are taking!”

Gracious and understanding as always, the Lord asked me: “Have i ever lied?”. “No”, i agreed, but i was still unhappy. So we left it at that. Whenever the issue would come up, and before i could open my mouth to complain, the Spirit would graciously whisper to me ( and i would repeat ) “Father to orphans..”

So there other day i got one of the best news about Gai. The Lord solved for Gai an issue i had written off as impossible (  In fact there was nothing i could have done about it ). Imagine my shame for having raised issues with the Lord about His word, just because what i had requested of Him was not happening as fast as i wanted.

I may have lost some “serious” readers by that title, i know. But good to see you are reading the post. I believe by your reading this, you are confirming that you need some extra information or “help” with trials ( who doesn’t ?) and the Lord has directed you here, so, be open, it must have something for you.

Now, of course, there is no such thing as a Christian life that is totally trouble-free . The Christian life, is a life full of goodies and abundant blessing, for sure. But if you did not know, it is also a life of trials. ( This may come as shock to some of you: If you find that you have no trials, it may be that you are not following Christ as you should be! ). Paul, who gave us most of the new testament books, says of Himself:

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. ( 2 Timothy 2: 8-9, NIV)

And hear what the Lord Jesus Christ is saying to us through the Spirit:

if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; ( 2 Timothy 2:12, NIV)

Of course, he is talking of enduring God ordained trials ( hardships/difficulties/sufferings). But some trials are unnecessary. The aim of the post is to point you to some of the ways in which you can reduce getting into those unnecessary trials. Write me if you manage to eliminate trials entirely from your life.

( Again, If you find that you have no trials, it may be that are no threat to the enemy’s camp, so he does not bother with you. )

Trials and temptations
