Science is a wonderful thing.

No one can argue with some of the great advances in life we have attained, thanks to the application of scientific knowledge.

I am sure you are aware that the field of genetics and its applications is bound to continue changing people’s lives in ways no one can predict. But let us consider a few behaviors so far found to be genes related. Here are a few behaviors that we are informed the genes predisposes someone to:

  • Alcohol addiction.
  • Anger.
  • Thrill seeking or T-Type ness.
  • Kleptomania.

You do not need to be a gene scientist to realize that soon, we will all “know” that the following behaviors are genetically influenced:

  • Tendency towards homosexuality
  • Lying
  • Promiscuity and adultery
  • Theft and greed
  • Hate and Murder

In other words, one can certainly find a gene that influences any given behavior a person involves themselves in.

Soon, it should be possible for genetize any sin.

Finding such a offending gene and connecting it to a behavior of interest is not as difficult as you might imagine. Ask anyone doing research in genetics.

Science does not lie

Science has given us so much. Look around you. See all the wonders?  Medicine. Technology. Engineering. Where would be we be without the help of science? Since science has been our eyes, helping us navigate the complex world of both the seen and the unseen, we have been trained to believe that as long as science says something is ( i.e. scientifically proven) then it is.

Science cannot lie, we are programmed to think.

Now the hard part. If science has been so faithful to us and it cannot lie, how do you reconcile the above claims with the claims of the Bible?

What does the Lord say about how we should behave in this life?

Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.” ( Genesis 4:6,7 NIV)

In other words, you may have a predisposition to sin, but you do not have to.

And, here is a list of a few other natural things you will be predisposed to:

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. (Galatians 5 19-21 NIV)

Should you then obey your impulses?

Who will you believe?

Science says you are genetically predisposed to do these things. That is true, for the Bible bears witness of the fact. If that were all that science did, it would be well and good. But it does not stop there.

‘Science’, or it’s guardians ( or priests ) go further beyond what science’s mandate is. They will tell you, that since your genes make you want to do these things, you go ahead and do them. Be real. It is not your fault. You were born that way.

Who will you believe? The priests of science or the words of the Lord?

Science is incomplete

Are you having difficulty deciding what/who is right in this conflict? The unseen Lord God or Science whose benefits you  enjoy daily? Here is some light that i hope helps you.

Science, defined as the study of the natural world, comes short in these three major ways.

  1. Science’s expertise is the natural, physical ( visible ) world. It has never claimed otherwise. You cannot therefore trust it’s judgments on matters truly unseen ( spiritual ).  Here is a simple daily example. You trust your car mechanic to fix your engine. But would you ask him to take care of  your heart if you had a heart attack? Absolutely not.
  2. Science  requires interpretation. As soon as you introduce this human element, there is no way the outcome of any observation will be 100% objective. It is not just possible. Humans know in part and therefore interpret in part. Once we all knew that Pluto was a planet. Now it is not.
  3. Because of the human element (2) and since at any time new knowledge depends on the body of knowledge already observed, and since the universe is infinite( as far as we can tell ), and since matter is made of infinitesimally small stuff, how can the interpretation of any new observation be even close to 1/infinity percent accurate? Given the infinity in both directions ( i.e. of both the big and the small ) of what is out there, you can see that it is not just possible.

At best any knowledge gained by science is a good approximation. And even if the observations of science were objective, and did not lie, those that interpret the observations are subjective and are capable of lying.

Never forget this.

Did God say?

..the serpent ..said to the woman, “Did God really say,.. ( Genesis 3:1 NIV)

4 “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4NIV)

Anytime you hear anyone ( that very learned Professor, Eminent scientist, Noble winner, President of the Universe, His Holiness the …, etc  ) teach something that is directly against what the Lord God has said, remember who is really speaking to you.

Look deeper still and you will realize that science has been made both a religion and a god.

This pattern is repeated in almost all aspects of inventions in this life. A new thing or invention comes up. It does a lot of good or says a lot of true things. Many people get on board, puts their trust into it. But soon, slowly but surely, when people least expect it, it turns from the neutral to a weapon of spiritual destruction of its disciples.

Forget that and you shall have no shortage of confusion.
